Can a Star Be a Hero?

California Girl

In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness month, QVC, the Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation (FFCF), and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) have joined forces to raise money for breast cancer research and education. Jessica Simpson

Just to make my web page presentable, I'm spicing it up with a couple shots of Christine Applegate, star and icon of stage, screen and television. If looks alone constitute acceptable criteria for hero worship, some of us men will have to plead guilty. Take us out to the woodshed for a spell!

Show Business Family
Actually, Chris Applegate, besides looks, has value based on sheer entertainment appeal. Skimming through fansites online, I learn she was born into a show business family. Her birthdate is November 25, 1971 - born on Thanksgiving Day, in Hollywood, California. Great place to say a star is born, wouldn't you say.

Where do people remember Applegate from? For starters there's her role as ditzy Kelly Bundy on Fox's Married...with Children. The current season has her starring on Samantha Who?

The big splash that Applegate has made of late is in fact the fruition of many years of acting and entertainment. Chris was a child actor and made her television debut at the age of three months in her mother's arms on the daytime drama "Days of Our Lives." She once said in an interview, she has been an actress since "she popped out." (Here's a German website devoted to our hero.) She appeared in numerous spots and TV shows, movies, and yes, the inevitable commercials. At what point did she truly flourish? The biographies online suggest that the progress was steady ... once she was ready.

Personal
Green-eyed, 5' 5" tall, Christine Applegate was chosen as one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1999 and received Cosmopolitan Magazine's Fun Fearless Female Award in 2003. A good friend of actresses Nicole Eggert and Gwyneth Paltrow, Applegate once dated actor Christian Slater (1996). She has been involved in Christian fellowship, even has an ankle tatoo with the name Agape, honoring her church community. (Agape is the Bible word for God's love. from Greek. )

A Crucial Cause
How important it is in these days to raise public awareness regarding the prevention and early detection of life-threatening illness. Right now, I am especially thinking about breast cancer awareness. All women past thirty --- how important to visit your doctor. Educate yourself on this critical health issue for today's women. Pray for Carrie in her own battle with breast cancer. And see Key Key's Journey. (WAS on GeoCities).

She walks the walk

Samantha Who It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way,
you always walked a step behind.
---------------------
So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name -- for so long,
a beautiful smile to hide the pain.
---------------------
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

---------------------
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
I would be nothing with out you.
---------------------
Fly, fly, fly away,
you let me fly so high.
Oh, fly, fly,
so high against the sky, so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you,
the wind beneath my wings.

HERO in the fight against cancer

Find a Cure

In a fit of hyperbole, feminist activist firebrand Susan Sontag blasted greedy and oppressive white man as the cancer of the human race. Besides his achievements of materialism, technology, exploration, and conquest, he has raped the planet, enslaved indigenous peoples round the globe and perhaps before anything else, repressed and subjugated woman. That is a "cancer" which needs a cure -- more than just a metaphorical one.

I am a glorious being. A miracle. That which is in God is also in me. I survive
all the storms, and like a tree planted by the waters, I shall not be moved.

My Hero Worship
About Me - your webby Bob Shepherd
I am a California dude, but (rural) northern California not L.A. Actually, you can find us on the map. Redding (and Red Bluff). Right now I am essentially "homeless" -- but not hurting too bad. Later half of 2009, I have a berth at our Redding mission (GNRM). So I'm doing okay. (Don't need IHSS yet.) As for me, I'm a political junkie, half tribal, I joke. I call this page a whimsical one, 'cause my inspiration is just that unsubstantial. Did you check the map? Did you find Tehama County? Our one-time claim to fame was a sordid one -- Cameron Hooker the infamous flagellante (bizarre CRIMINAL BDSM). His "spanko" victim got away, a hero of womanhood (Speak out and say, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Say, "We won't take it any more").

Believe me, our area has boo coo classier claims to fame than the Cameron Hooker - Colleen Stan sexcapade. Incidentally, he even claimed she somehow MADE him do it. It "turned her on" -- as preposterous as that sounds. Talk about blaming the victim! (Sounds like something from Freud, maybe) Wouldn't you love to see a little of the same medicine tried on the bullies of the world?

I hope you like my "whimsical" page. Now -- here's another one : she's my hero -- celebrating Christmas. (Let's not have too much fun, now.)
