Why are men (sometimes) such jerks?
Who is supposed to tell them to mind their manners? Who is supposed to teach them to control their hormones, and behave themselves. Obey their parents and teachers, respect women, protect minorities and vulnerable. Honor their country?See Ethical AtheistNOW, in the news, as if to prove to Democrats that even much respected LIBERALS can pull the same stunts as Republicans, Congressman Anthony Weiner makes a fool of himself, right in the glare of world spotlight. Brilliant but high-strung Democrat Anthony Weiner, who barely a year ago married his glamorous friend Huma Abedin, has had a porn fetish (apparently for many years), but now he has got caught, pants down (so to speak).
And his wife, the beautiful and intelligent Huma Abedin, surely feels hurt, betrayed, dishonored. Despite her stoic loyalty outwardly, how can she not feel deeply wounded by the pathetic behavior of her otherwise redeemable husband. Simple ethics and courtesy would have told Mr. Weiner to rein in his hormones. Doesn't the good book say to treat your wife with respect, to honor her, to uplift her?
What is happening to our country when male celebreties and athletic stars and yes, prominent politicians behave like spoilt adolescents. The public is often exasperated, yet how many average citizens are themselves guilty? The law itself seems a bit unsure what to do, not wanting to appear draconian. Yet at the same time obliged not to condone such atrocious behavior.
America needs a turnaround. "Ye stiff-necked and uncircumcized (of heart). As your fathers did, so do ye." Do we need a thorough-going scrubbing, a cleansing -- starting on the inside, and working outward.
The law seems at a loss what to do with a husband like Weiner, but the imagination can sure come up with a scenario. Huma Abedin is a worker, a 'smarty pants' and a brave and patriotic woman. Proverbs 31 would call her a VIRTUOUS WOMAN -- a woman of valor. Please see Woman of Valor :: Mulieris dignitatem (1988)So what went wrong? To me, Mister Weiner is a fool, a noval. Picture him held accountable by a domestic "court" of hard-boiled righteous feminists. Let's try a little alternative sentencing for the spoiled and juvenile-behaving husband. Take a page from the Taliban and try it on for size.
Instead of a slap on the wrist for the porn pervert (literally caught with his pants down), let's save the marriage with a dose of tough love for the sinner. Thirty lashes with a wet noodle.
Okay. Okay. I know it would never happen in real life. Nor is Huma Abedin ready to give up on the jerk. (oops, I mean the Honorable Mr. Weiner.) What a brave woman she is, a woman of valor (chayil).
I just rather suspect a lot of "men" in this country are (like Congressman Weenie boy) something less than real men. I think a lot of "men" in this country probably need a bit of a wake-up call, or maybe a dose or two of tougher love than they've been getting.
A superficial apology is not what the Huma Abedin's of America need or deserve. They need REAL respect. They deserve a REAL man.
